We are so excited to have new teachers at Valley View Middle School this year!

Meet Bonnie Young, our new Science teacher!

Hello, I am the new part time 7th grade science teacher. First, I love science, especially animals. At home I have a cat, dog, some chickens and quite a few fish. Nothing exciting I know but my husband keeps me in check. In the past I have taught a summer science camp at home, tutored a little and was a computer planning time specialist at Foothills Elementary school where I snuck a little science in here and there whenever possible. I have 4 kids, the youngest being 14 and going into 8th grade at Salem Jr. High, the next in 10th at Salem High School, my second oldest starting school at BYU this year and my oldest spending a year and a half in Washington State. My husband works as a machinist. My family is a big part of my life.

I tend to rotate through hobbies and things I like to do. One constant is reading. I am always reading a book, usually for fun. I love carving using power tools because I am not patient enough to carve by hand. I have carved a few sculptures mainly of animals. I quill, which is rolling strips of paper and forming them into pictures. I currently cook and bake and, in the past, have sewed, quilted, done applique, juggled, played tennis (since I was 5), played badminton on a team in High School, hiked and am learning pickleball. I like learning new things and traveling.

I don't have a lot of favorites. I love anything chocolate. Watching movies, in general, is one of my least favorite things to do. I am on the quiet side and a little shy until you get to know me. My latest adventure is teaching at Valley View Middle school after a 20-year break from teaching.
