We are excited to kick off our fourth year of Battle of the Books at Valley View Middle School!
Interested students will be part of a team of between 1 to 6 students. Each team member will choose 6 books to read; however, we encourage students to read as many books as they would like from the list. There are 24 books on the list. In February 2024, teams will come together for a game show style tournament during school where they will work as a team to answer questions about the books on the list. Students do not have to read every book on the list; however, the more books each person on the team reads, the better chance they have when answering questions in a battle.
The questions are written like this example.
Question: In what book is there a dog named Watch? Answer: Boxcar Children by Warner
(The answer is always a title and author's’ last name)
Students may form their own teams. They must turn in their team form together with other students they would like on their team (up to 6 per team). You DO NOT need to form a full team to submit your permission slip; we will form teams for all students that do not have a full team request or friend preference. I will accept the first 160 students that sign up.
We have six copies of each book in our school library and digital copies on Sora that students will be able to check out. The books are also available at the Salem public library.
Students interested in participating must return the signed permission slip to Mrs. Mower in the library by Tuesday, October 17th! We will meet every Wednesday during recess in the library starting on October 24th.
We need volunteers to help run battles during school hours on Tuesday, February 13th. If you would like to help out during that event, please email Mrs. Mower at allison.mower [at] nebo.edu.
